Must-have marketing tools for all PR professionals

Here at Faith, we utilise a range of free and paid-for tools that help us effectively implement PR, social and content campaigns, delivering amazing results for our clients. Tools such as Sprout Social, Kantar, Google Trends and Dot Star Media are used daily to support our work.

As an industry, it is important that we share our knowledge so that we can all continue to thrive and deliver great results for our clients.

We have spoken to a number of our team members and rounded up our current favourite PR tools:

Stefanie’s ‘can’t live without’ tool

Although not strictly a PR tool, but Xero accounting software has been a gamechanger for me in terms of managing the agency’s accounts – it is super easy to use and provides real-time accounting information, plus the app means I can stay up to speed and approve invoices and other accounting tasks all from my phone!

Abigail’s favourite tools for comms

I find Sprout a useful tool. We use this to schedule social media posts for a lot of our clients and can benefit from the reporting features. It is handy to be able to monitor which posts, and which type of posts, are performing well across multiple platforms or over a certain period of time.

Another amazing tool that we utilise as an agency is a media request database. We use both Response Source and Dot Star Media; I find these helpful to find media opportunities for our clients as well as ourselves. They are also great for sourcing relevant contacts and keeping abreast of popular topics and areas of expertise that journalists are on the lookout for.

Nicole’s number one for coverage

One of the most used tools for me is Kantar media monitoring, it is so useful to keep on top of client coverage, it picks up pieces that we may otherwise have missed if we were to do a manual search. It also has a user-friendly dashboard providing key stats and information on the coverage which we share with clients.

Kate’s ex-journalist habit

Although it is not a PR tool as such, but I find an up-to-date contact’s book is the most useful thing I use. It is something you develop as a journalist, and I still have a book where I keep the names and numbers of relevant journos that I speak to all the time. It saves trawling through internet searches as (for me) it is quite well organised.

Kirsty’s top social media tools

As a social media manager, a key tool for me is Sprout Social, it is an absolute must for anyone who manages multiple channels for multiple clients. A good all-rounder that allows us to schedule, review, and report for effective social media management.

Another useful tool for social media is Google Trends, it is helpful for planning content to be aware of when conversations are starting to spike or decline online. It works best alongside other tools rather than just in isolation. Another similar tool that works well alongside Google Trends is Answer the Public, it is a great resource for content research to see what terms are being searched.
