aql’s chief operating officer Sarah Tulip has been nominated in the Forward Ladies Yorkshire, North East and Scotland regional shortlist.
Shortlisted in the Corporate Leader category, Sarah is a fervent campaigner for empowering women into technology roles. She recently hosted the successful "Northern Power Women" conference at aql's historic Grade II listed HQ Salem Chapel. She is also a key influencer in the Northern Powerhouse and was officially recognised as a ‘Northern Power Woman’ earlier this year, as a role model for women in business.
Sarah speaks extensively on Women in Tech and is currently mentoring a group of young women in the early stages of their career. She supports Empowering Women and She Does Digital, and sits on the Leeds Digital Board to help steer the city to meet workplace skills challenges. She has also sat on a steering committee for Leeds City Council helping the council address skills gaps and shortages in the city.
Sarah said: “Being a senior woman in today’s business world is a great responsibility and I use it as a platform to drive further parity in this space. Championing girls and women into business and technology is something I am deeply passionate about.
“Being shortlisted for this award is a great honour. It enables to me to further shout out about and celebrate the great achievements of women in industry today and engage the next generation.”
Forward Ladies managing director, Griselda Togobo, said: “This has been a fantastic year for women and now it’s time to change gear and focus on the support needed to nurture talent regardless of gender, sector or region. The award categories are a reflection not only of the types of businesses with which women are involved, but also those which showcase the underrepresented women working in traditionally male dominated fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Digital and Online industries.
“The calibre of entries has been increasing year on year, but this year we have a number of outstanding entries and here at Forward Ladies we very much look forward to celebrating and sharing their success.”
67 entrepreneurial female business leaders have been shortlisted across twelve categories. The winners of each category will be announced at the final on 22 September at the Crowne Plaza in Newcastle. The winners will then appear before a live panel of independent judges in November, with the national finals taking place in Leeds on 1 December.
